IPTG Scholarship Audition Rules

  1. Members must attend two meetings each year, and/or participate on a committee or will not be eligible to enter students in the scholarship competition for that academic year.
  2. Each teacher may enter no more than 8 eligible students who have each played in an IPTG cooperative recital or masterclass during the current season.
  3. Prior year first prize winners may re-enter only in a higher category.
  4. The non-refundable audition fee is $10.00.
  5. Audition times will be assigned prior to the contest. Contestants will be expected to perform at their scheduled time.
  6. Performers are allowed a brief warm-up time (scale, arpeggio, etc.) immediately before the performance.
  7. Performers in grades K-4 are required to play two memorized pieces in contrasting styles. There is a 6 minute time limit.
  8. Performers in grades 5-8 are required to play two memorized pieces from different style periods (Baroque, Classical, Romantic, Impressionist, and Modern). There is a 9 minute time limit.
  9. Performers in grades 9-12 are required to play two memorized pieces from different style periods (Baroque, Classical, Romantic, Impressionist, and Modern). There is a 12 minute time limit.

  11. Multiple movements from each piece are allowed.
  12. Compositions for prepared piano are not permitted at the request of composition hosts.
  13. Students must bring a copy of the music they perform. Measures must be numbered at the beginning of each system. A music release form from the publisher must be signed for any photocopies being used. If students forget their music, they may perform and be evaluated, but forfeit consideration for prizes or honorable mentions.
  14. Foreign scores will be accepted if English translations are written in (composer, title, and any non-Italian words).
  15. Due to limited space, parents may not be present at auditions in private homes. Auditions held in public spaces will be open to the public. This includes grades 5-12.
  16. Addresses for the locations will be provided by the teacher. Please use map quest or google maps to find directions.
  17. Guild members hosting auditions will notify the teachers of winning students immediately following the judges’ decisions. If the teacher is unavailable, the host will leave a message or call the winning student. Hosts will notify the chairperson.
  18. Judges will be urged to consider performance quality over level of difficulty.
  19. Judges will be given a minimum of $100.00 for an honorarium. Auditions that last longer than two and one half hours will be considered for a higher honorarium.
  20. If the two pieces being performed take longer than the allotted time, the judge will have the student play only part of the piece(s).
  21. When 12 or more contestants enter one category, two honorable mentions will be awarded. There will be no ties. All prizes will not necessarily be awarded. JUDGES’ DECISIONS ARE FINAL.
